Ask three agencies what a website costs and you can get three answers that are lakhs apart. Most of that gap comes from what each quote leaves out, not from the work itself. This guide uses the ranges we quote at CodingCafe, shows what you get at each level, and lists the costs that rarely come up in the first conversation, so you can compare quotes like for like.

These are our own ranges for projects in India. Your final number depends on scope, and we send it as an itemised quote before any work starts.

What each price range includes

Business website: ₹40,000 to ₹60,000

This is the most common project we build. It is usually a WordPress site with 5 to 10 pages, built with Elementor so your team can edit text and images without calling a developer.

  • Design based on your brand, working on mobile, tablet and desktop
  • Pages such as Home, About, Services, a few service details, and Contact
  • Contact or enquiry form, WhatsApp button and Google Maps location
  • Basic on-page SEO: page titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap and speed setup
  • Training so you can update the site yourself

The lower end of the range fits a clean design with fewer pages and content you already have. The upper end fits more pages, custom sections, multiple forms or a blog set up from day one.

Ecommerce store: ₹60,000 to ₹2,00,000

Most of our stores run on WooCommerce or Shopify. The range covers a store with up to about 100 products.

  • Store design, product and category pages, cart and checkout
  • Indian payment gateway setup, such as Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree
  • Shipping zones, GST-ready invoices and order emails
  • Product upload for the starting catalogue
  • Admin training for orders, stock and discounts

Prices rise with custom design, product variants, courier and ERP integrations, multiple currencies or a large catalogue. See our ecommerce development service for details.

Custom web application: ₹2,00,000 to ₹10,00,000+

This covers software built around how your business works: a custom CRM, a lead management system, a booking system or a client portal. We usually build these in Laravel.

  • User logins with roles and permissions
  • Dashboards, reports and data exports
  • Workflows, notifications and automation
  • Integrations with payment, email, SMS, WhatsApp or accounting tools

The range is wide because the scope is. A focused first version with one or two modules sits near the lower end. A multi-role system with many integrations can pass ₹10,00,000. If you are pricing a CRM, our guide on how much a CRM costs goes deeper.

Maintenance: ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 per month

A website needs regular care after launch. Plugins and themes need updates, backups need to run, and security needs watching. Our plans cover updates, backups, uptime and security monitoring, and a set amount of small edits each month. A simple business site sits at the lower end; a busy store or web app sits at the upper end.

What makes a website cost more or less

  • Number of pages and templates. Ten pages that share one layout cost less than five pages that each need a unique design.
  • Custom design versus a theme. A design made from scratch takes more hours than adapting a well-built theme.
  • Features and integrations. Bookings, memberships, payment gateways, CRM sync and ERP links each add development and testing time.
  • Content. If we write the text, source images or upload hundreds of products, that work is part of the quote.
  • Platform. WordPress and Shopify are faster to build on. A custom Laravel application costs more but fits workflows a ready-made platform cannot.
  • Speed and SEO requirements. Building for strong Core Web Vitals and search visibility takes extra care, and it pays back in traffic.

Costs people forget to budget for

  • Domain and hosting. These renew every year and are billed separately from the build.
  • GST. Ask whether a quote includes 18% GST. Two quotes can look different only because one adds it and one does not.
  • Premium plugins, themes and apps. Some features need paid licences that renew yearly.
  • Payment gateway fees. Gateways charge a fee per transaction, separate from the website cost.
  • Maintenance. A site without updates and backups gets slower and less secure over time.
  • Content and photos. Professional copy and product photography are often the slowest part of a project.

Why quotes in India vary so much

You can find a website offered for a few thousand rupees and another quoted at several lakh for what sounds like the same thing. The difference is usually in what is not said: a ready-made template with your logo swapped in, no mobile testing, no SEO setup, and no support after launch. A cheap build that has to be redone within a year or two costs more in the end.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost in India?

With an agency, a 5 to 10 page business website typically costs ₹40,000 to ₹60,000. An ecommerce store costs ₹60,000 to ₹2,00,000, and a custom web application costs ₹2,00,000 to ₹10,00,000 or more. These are CodingCafe ranges for 2026; the exact price depends on scope.

What are the yearly costs of running a website?

Plan for domain and hosting renewals, any premium plugin or app licences, and maintenance. Our maintenance plans cost ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 a month and cover updates, backups, security monitoring and small edits.

Does the website price include GST?

It depends on the agency, so always ask. GST on website development services is 18%, which makes a large difference when you compare quotes.

Why is ecommerce website development more expensive?

A store needs product and category templates, a cart and checkout, payment gateway and shipping setup, order emails and product uploads. Each of these adds development and testing time compared with a business website.

Can I start small and add features later?

Yes. Many clients launch a business website or a first version of their app, then add features once it brings results. Ask your developer to build on a platform that can grow, so later work extends the site instead of replacing it.
